Hi Guys,
Thanks for all the great info this site rocks.
I purchased my first larger boat about 5 weeks ago.
Up to this point I owned a jon boat and a 16' aluminum deep v.
New boat is:
1979 AMF/Cresliner 885 Crusader bowrider
Mercruiser 228 I/O Serial# 5170412
I want to check the year of the engine so i tried the Mercruiser site but with a pre 1980 I have to contact a dealer.
Does anyone know what year this motor is.
The motor runs fantastic I have run her the past three weekends without any problems. I have not yet run her WOT, I'm not sure why but I don't want to push her too hard. I have had her up to 4000 RPM's without any problems at all. The temp guage never gets above 150 F. She needs some maintenance in the spring. The trim is loosing pressure and drops when she sits at the dock. I can see a small leak beneath the trim motor and the interior hoses look pretty worn. The electrical will mostly need to be replaced. The one concern I do have is one of the carburator mounting bolts the previous owner used was way too long and he used nuts as spacers (see picture). The hull came up real nice with a buffer and some 3M polish my brother in law turned me on too. Overall for $1500.00 I think I got a pretty good deal.
