When installing all three bellows in a mercruiser prealpha is the a certain sequence to doing it. I have the exhaust bellows installation tool. Do you stretch toward the rear or can you get in there from the front? The motor is a 305 in a sea arrow ski boat. Gonna do the u joints and water impellar whille I'm at it.

Re: pre alpha bellows installation

I just did all 3 of mine But mine is an Alpha 1..!st thing I did was attach new water supply hose to transom. I did shift cable and shift cable bellows next. Ran the cable thru bellows most of the way to the top of engine, but left a few feet till I had the rest put together .Then attached the U joint bellows to the bell housing. Of course I had removed the hinge pins so as to pull the bell housing away from transom. Then the exhaust bellows to the transom Then the U joint bellows to the transom Just grab the whole bellhousing an push like hell and make sure forward end of u joint bellows seats. [B sure to use bellows adhesive on u joint and shift cable bellows ! Then attached the aft end of the water hose to the bell housing connector and positioned clamp- didnt tighten nclamp till the end but could prob do it now. I am not sure if it woukld have been easier to attach aft end of water hose to bell housing before I attached the forward end of u joint bellows U decide ! Ensure all clamps are pointed in the right direction so as to be accesable and so screw doesnt rub against any of your new parts. Diagram in manual will show you correct position Then pulled the exhaust bellows onto the bell housing from the inside of the bellows with tool and tighten clamp. That worked for me Good luck !!

Re: pre alpha bellows installation

well what paul just ran down for you is exactlt the best way i've found of doing it. i really dont eventhink you need to spend the money on that bellow tool either. like paul said just take the hinge pins out and push like a mf and they'll go on.
