Early !968 Pre Alpha gimbal ring pins, need to know how to remove the lower pin. Removed the cotter pin that goes through the pin, now does it screw in or press in? It has a large slot across the bottom. Thanks for the help in advance. Happy Sailing! Rich SIZE]
I came here hoping to learn the correct way. I can tell you once you remove the cotter pin, you can push the pin out. And out comes all the little roller things with it. Can you post why you want to do this?
Thank you for the reply. With Kroil pen. oil and a bench press was able to remove the lower gimbal pin. It is being dis-assembled for inspection and paint as part of a vintage boat re-build. 1968 23T Power Cat that has a 160 Mercruiser Type 1 out-drive. Another project is to find a replacement fix for the tilt switch in the top of the gimbal ring. If you have this style what did you do? Maybe someone on the forum has a fix. Happy Sailing! Rich
I striped the steering out of my gimbal ring. Currently attempting to drill through the gimbal ring and the spindle to put a grade 8 bolt through filling the whole area with jb weld right before the bolt runs in. It is a last ditch attempt to save myself a lot of $ and work replacing it. However did you notice in the lower gimbal pin was there cylindrical rollers for the pin to turn on?
