Hello,
I purchased a new impeller kit for my 1966 pre-alpha Mercruiser R Outdrive.

Anyone know where I can get a video or photographic guide on replacing the impeller..I am new to boating and have no idea where to start.

I will also take typed instructions as well...Is there two different areas in the outdrive that will need to be refilled with oil after this is complete? I see an oil fill screw at the top of the outdrive....once I take this screw out, will I fill it with oil from there? Will I need to put a new o-ring behind the screw? What type of oil do I use?

Also, where do I add trim fluid? Someone told me there is a reservoir in the engine compartment similar to a master cylinder reservoir in a car...but I cannot locate this.

Any help, videos, diagrams, links, photos, or instruction would be greatly appreciated.

in '66 i don't think a 1-r was applicable. best i can see from a drive app. chart ya got a 1a,b,c ez or II or 'O'. they may have separate filling of lub for upper and lower.

for info on the systems ya need to get mercruiser service manual #1 from somewhere. Mercruiser, ebay, friend. it will have the facts in it so you can work on whatever drive ya got.. it will have the facts about your trim system too..

On my 71 pre-alpha drive you refill it from the bottom screw, using a pump. It's filled with the top "vent" screw open, and until lube runs out of the top.

I was going to try and scan the manual pages for you regarding replacing the pump, but the book is so old, and my scanner stinks so bad that I can't get a good image. Sorry. I can tell you that with the age drive, if it hasn't been apart in a while it can be a chore separating the case. I can also tell you that on those vintage drives there are two pumps. one with a drain hole, and one without. Verify which one you have before getting it. They are not interchangable even though either will fit.
