Pre Alpha Leaking Oil from Water Pickups

Hi All,

My drive is driving me mad.

I see oil stains south of the water pickups on the drive now.

I realize this must be seals but which ones and how to replace ?

I changed the impeller again due to overheat and found oil in the water pump housing too.
One of the impeller vanes was facing the wrong way too.

Any ideas grateful received.

Thanks

Ron

Hi Ron,

Depending on which 'pre-Alpha' drive you have (there are at least 13 that match that description) oil leaking from the water intakes is most likely one of a few places. Could be the seals under the water pump, the shift-shaft seal or the drive-shaft housing lower seal.

The only definitive way to find out is to remove the drive, drain the oil and pressure test it...

Once you do the pressure test, and tell us which drive, we can direct you on the best way to replace the seal...

Hi chris,

Thanks for the reply. I will upload some images later.
Its a MR-1 housed in a later casing as it has a square cavitation plate but the shaft pin of the MR type.

I have replaced the WP Housing 1 month or 8 water hours before.

Kind regards

Ron.

The MR and the Alpha One use the same housing (both drive-shaft housing and gear housing). The MR and the Alpha One have NO pre-load pin. Anyway, have you pulled the drive and drained and pressure tested it?
