Pre-alpha/merc1 ourdrive pressure test.

I'm losing gear oil and its being replaced with water. Not good. I have a gasket and o-ring kit on the way. Can I pressure test this like its an Alpha outdrive? I can only find tutorials on the alphas and not the older outdrive. Thanks for any help.

Your leak is probably in the lower water pump seal area. Look closely at the shaft where the seals contact it. Get a piece of thin rubber and cover it with a piece of steel that is wider than the gearcase to cover the oil transfer port usually a pair of vice grips will grab the lip to hold the metal down to pressure test. Some people jam a tapered punch in the hole also.
