I have a lot of slop where the 1 1/2 inches square heavy piece of steel sticks down about two inches.this is at the very top of the outdrive looking from the outside of the boat.I have about a quarter of an inch of space at the top .The outdrive swings about three inches without the square piece moving. How much torque or how much pressure can I put on the slotted aluminum that cages it? Also I need to get some stainless washers under a heavy pin about an inch in diameter at the bottom where it pivots. Can this "slop" cause a slight vibration when I'm on plane? I gotta keep this baby alive so help is appreciated.

bernie, check to see if the nut on the upper swivel shaft has come loose, letting the gimbal ring drop down. you may need to replace the gimbal ring and shaft and probably the steering arm,yes this will cause a vibration
