pre alpha to alpha 1

I am new to sterndrives,and i needsome help. I have a 87 sylvan V171 with a 3.0 mercruiser and an alpha 1 transom mount. Will a pre alpha(mercruiser 1) sterndrive mount to my transom mount or do i need a pre alpha transom mount? I found a pre alpha that has the same gears that need (1.98).An help would be great ! Thanks

It Should bolt right On...........<br /><br />But,....<br />You'll need to make Sure it has the 9" Input Shaft,+ Not the 8" shaft.......

Thanks Bondo. I have the alpha 1 that came in pieces with the boat, Including the input shaft. It is just missing all the bearings and has a bad set of gears in the upper. So on my budget the prealpha unit just seems like the best way to go for now.
