Hi I have a mercruiser engine with a pre alpha drive. I recently noticed oil leaking from the port trim ram. Has anyone done the rebuild on these and do you have any tips. Thanks need to get back on the water ASAP before summers over

Where is the ram leaking from, the area around where the hydraulic hoses connect, the area where the tube is screwed to the front casting or where the push rod extends out?

Order 2 Sierra # 18-2291 Trim cylinder repair kits. Pay attention which way the 2 piece check valve is facing when you take the ram apart. A aluminum spool should come out with the ram internals that has a small “O” ring on it. Sometime it does not come out so screw the end cap on the tube and bang it on the table to get it out.
With the hoses removed run the pump in both directions to purge out the old fluid. When the rams are back on refill the pump with power steering fluid.

Thanks for the tips unfortunately when I had the roam in the vise trying to get the cap off with a pipe wrench and propane torch it just sheared off at the threads. 👎🏽 I guess I’m looking for a use pre alpha
