Pre BIA?

Good afternoon, could someone please tell me what "pre BIA" means in Mercruiser wiring? Is "pre" determined by a particular year or engine , and how do I determine if my boat has "pre BIA" wiring? If I was at the boat, I would just check my wiring against the "pre" wiring diagrams in the manual. But it will be a couple of days before I get back to the marina, and I'd like to check out the wiring diagram in the meantime. Thanks!

It means that Mercruiser used what ever color wire they wanted (no standards). So you have to get official schematics from the factory service manual. The aftermarket wannabe manuals won't cut it
