I have my 1994 150 temporarily bolted onto the transom, no controls are installed yet, I have the controls and would like to hook a battery up to test before installing everything. Maybe lay it out on the deck and see if it powers up. Bought the engine used and the controls seperately from the same Marina but the controls aren't from this engine, they are OMC and expected to work.
I won't be starting it, just want to test the harness's.
Is this ok to try?

I also bought a 6 gal fuel tank ,a fuel line with a fuel bulb, pump, but it has spring operated connectors at both ends, the fitting on the engine is just what appears to be a plastic fitting with a barb, theres a second fitting at the engine for what I assume is vro oil feed.
Do I cut one end off the fuel line from the tank and push the fuel line onto the nipple at engine, secure it with ? a zip?

Still waiting for the service manual. itching to get started on something.

If you have a 1994 motor the harness you bought should have a large red cannon plug. If so, that's the right harness. Yes, you can just plug it in if you was to see if it turns over (or starts for that matter).

A 6 gallon can is fine for that motor as long as the hose is a 3/8" ID hose. Yes, you plug the hose on to the barb, no clip on fittings on a V6.

It does not sound like you have the Oil injection system set up. You will want to run a 50::1 gas/oil mix in that 6 gal tank until you have the oil injection connected and have verified it is working.

Yep , it has the big red round plug and I think another smaller D shaped plug.
Can I verify the tilt/trim without installing the heavy starter cable?

I was planning to toss the oil injection , I don't like the idea of it and don't need another (oily ) tank back there,
they gave me a used oil tank, it looks oily and messy.

Yes, you'll need the battery cables. You might think about getting rid of the oil injection. I think you'd regret it.
