Hi all. I am new to boating and this forum and after purchasing my new setup, i am afraid i have been plagued with problems.

Having being fleeced on FleeceBay for a Suzuki DT85 outboard motor that was fecked, i have since replaced the Power Head.

I was wondering, to prevent a repeat of oil delivery problems (which i am told these engines are plagued by), i was considering premixing the oil + fuel.

Does anyone know if this would have any detrimental effect on engine running? Carburation?
Would it not gum up the carb jets causing blockage + further hassle?

Any thoughts appreciated.

Suzuki has one of the best oil injection systems in the outboard market. but if you want to disconnect it, running a 50 to 1 oil mix won't hurt anything.

Hi, welcome to iBoats :) .... it will run exactly the same as per oil injection .. it will not gum up the carbs and cause further hassle unless you don't drain the carb bowls before your engine sits for a while ... I prefer running my engines on premix, then I know it gets oil, especially cause most of them are modified and have no working warnings, if you do decide to run premix, make sure you disconnect the oil pump shaft that make it work and plug it's pipes ... good luck

That maybe so but its failure was the ultimate cause of my engines demise.

For the sake of a few seconds measuring and mixing, i think i'll opt for the cheaper method than forking out for yet another engine thanks.

Many thanks guys for the info.

I'm sorry to say JETHRO5333 but I don't agree with you, the main causes of all suzuki's that fail is because of oil injection problems, (well older models) I've owned about 8 suzuki's and whenever there was a problem with it it had something to do with the oil injection .... in my opinion, suzuki's are great engines when run on premix ...

I just got a boat and the guy I got it from said that he had disconnected the oil injection due to th eboat sitting for so long and the oil fill access panel was left open in the rain. How can I tell if the oil injection has been disconnected

you will see that the pipes coming from the oil pump should be plugged, otherwise, if their not, he might have disconnected the shaft that makes the oil pump work, and the only way you can see if that has been done is to take the oil pump off ....
