Does anyone have a prepurchase run though of what engine/outdrive problems to look for when buying as used boat.

Looking for information on how to inspect the bellows, gimbal, and the like.

I intend to but the muffs on and check compression and for water in the right and wrong places.

I am looking to buy an 1989 Sea Ray 180 with the 3.0 Mercusier Alpha One Outdrive.

Thanks for your help.

Yea, it's called a survey.
Ask any marine dealer in your area for a marine surveyor. Not only that, but one that the banks like. Shade tree surveyors are everywhere and the banks and insurance companies won't deal with them, so there information is useless.
Also have a marine tech look over the engine and drive, it will be well worth the money on both.

This works as good as it can. Pay the best mechanic at a marina to look at and ride the boat with you. $$ But still the best check available.
