pressure in lower unit (johnson 115 )

This is a tech question -----if ya have pressure in the lower unit after the motor has been shut down for 16 hours , but when you loosen the plug water comes out, where is the leak? Is it the shifter shaft , the drive shaft or the prop shaft?<br />This is a 1996 115 hp ocean runner johnson. :rolleyes:

Yes. Or it could be an O ring or fill/vent screw gasket/O ring.<br /><br />I bet a vacuume test is the best bet for pin pointing it.<br /><br />Good luck!

Just like Dhadley said, you have to do vacuum test, should have 15 inches. The prop shaft, and drive shaft have double seals, one keeps oil in, the other keeps water out. You could have a gear case that holds pressure and still gets water inside.

South West Florida now, but My dad was born in Adel and I visit as often as I can. I will be at Hahira sometime this summer for a reunion.
