Hey there,

New to the world of outboards....anyways the other day I noticed the little pressure relief nut on the 6gal tank cap/gauge that came with the used boat I picked up.

My question:

How far in or out should this nut be when the motor is running?

Just unscrew it until it stops when running. Those vents usually have a stop so they can't be removed and lost. It's the vent for the tank. If you leave it closed, the engine will eventually die from lack of fuel. The little fuel pumps on outboards can't find a vacuum in the tank.

Thanks. I wasn't sure if it was supposed to be tight when running. So loose it is.

Close it when transporting the boat or the boat is sitting un-used. Open it when you will be running the engine.
