Pressure tank connector

I recently aquired a free pressure tank. The tank is shot but everything else was in okay condition. The prized female connector was full of mud on one side. I got it pretty clean but it still feels like there is some build up in there. I read a blurb in here about how you can knock these things apart. Anyone got any ideas?

Re: Pressure tank connector

I use a good Allen wrench with the "L" ground off to make it a simple, very strong rod. Must be a size that fits snugly, but not tightly, inside the fuel and air nubs. DO NOT use a nail, or a dollar store hex wrench, as they will bend and mess things up.

Make a catcher (I used a large nut with the hole just larger in diameter than the brass faces of the fitting) and set it up in a vice with the nut centered over one of the brass faces and the Allen wrench piece in the related nub. Press the face out and you'll get the face, o-ring, washer, plunger and spring. Nothing to it... Replace the o-rings while you're at it.

Reassemble in the same order they come out. I just press them back together in the vice. One of these times I'll remember to take pics of the process. Takes about 5 minutes from start to finish...
