Just picked up a running 1958 5.5 with pressure tank for 28.00, yup only 28 bucks on EBAY! Cant believe it, neither did the seller, Runs great. Wanna get rid of pressure tank though. Looked at how to videos. Im very handy with these, is all you do is remove both flapper valves and discard, plug one with a vaccum cap and install aftermarket pump? In addition to new fitting of course. Anyone need pressure tank cheap?

Re: Pressure tank conversion

I've found that the search tool on i-boats leaves a lot to be desired.....but the "similar threads" feature that the board automatically generates for every post makes up for it! Try the links to "similar threads" that you see below....

If that pressure tank is in good working oder, I would just stay with it. They work great. A good way to convert though is at duckworksmagazine.com

Yup, keep the pressure tank - keep it original.

Re: Pressure tank conversion

If you have the tank, it is usually cheaper and easier to just use it. Also prevents mix-ups with other single line tanks that may be mixed at improper oil ratios as you'll know your pressure tank is mixed right...

Re: Pressure tank conversion

Cut a new gasket for tank holds pressure and it started right up. When i shut it down gas came pouring out of carb. You guessed it-gunked up float needle. Blew out carb, new needle valve runs excellant pumps water strong. Got kind of nostalgic and gonna keep pressure tank for now. I like the metal fuel filters in sediment bowl too, Motor and tank were 28 bucks. Be hard pressed to find that deal again.
