pressure tank rebuild snag

tired of smelling like a gas can when I get home, so I'm rebuilding my plastic button pressure tank.

the snag comes on the rubber seal under the pressure pump, on the original rubber there's a metal sort of cap under the rubber seal attached to the seal, on the new seal there's nothing. Not even a hole.

it looks like the metal backing plate is riveted to the seal, anyone run into this before? It's a bit rusty and hard to tell, I found a pic of what I describe in an older thread, http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=245788&page=2&highlight=pressure+tank+diagram

where it says fuel pump spring

I can't figure out how to transfer it to the new rubber seal

I think the rubber part you have is for the earlier tank, the one with the aluminum push button. The plastic button model has the round metal parts riveted to the rubber diaphraghm.

well, that's one thought that crossed my mind. Well that whole piece is in decent condition so I put it back together with a new cork gasket, I think it'll hold air just fine now. Thanks for the input. That's the second time laings has sent me wrong parts.

I may have given you the wrong info, The one i replaced for my tank withe aluminum button style, was bought at nymarine.ca. He has both style's. I mistakenly thought that the plastic button style came assembeld with the metal washers, but they don't. Someone one here knows for sure though.

There is a kit to replace that obsolete riveted diaphragm. The kit includes a new button and a new lower diaphragm support washer. There is no longer any rivet or hole for it through the diaphragm.
