I've got a wiring question. I have a 1985 125hp force with a Prestolite ignition. I have two wiring diagrams to reference, and they're both confusing. I have two CDI units, and I'm not sure how to tell which is type A or B. I've been having problems with top end RPM. Changing from a 17 to 15 prop didn't change the RPM much at all.

Old setup:
#1 Orange
#2 Red
#3 Orange
#4 Red

Current setup: (Haven't tested)
#1 Orange
#2 Red
#3 Red
#4 Orange

Is this correct?
Schematic One: (Notice that one wire is labeled both red and orange on the bottom)

Not much labeling on these two, the wires come out and cross over? Where the bottom one crosses, exactly in the middle, it says Red so it is impossible to tell.

Looks to me like the diagrams you posted are wrong. Wire the second CD unit exactly like the first. This includes the trigger wires. The set up on those spark plug wires don't look that great either.

Re: Prestolite 125hp Wiring

The wires don't actually cross. What the diagram is showing is that the bottom half of the CD box services the upper cylinder--that is #1 and #3 in the respective CD box. So, as stated above, wire the second box the same as the first.
