Prestolite Starter Question...

Hey y'all, I'm just about to order a replacement starter from a gentleman in Logan, WV (EMS Global) off of Ebay for my '69 70 hp (Model 7170/ Serial 5145). Old one is a previously re-built Prestolite. His product offers a two year warranty, good price etc.
First of all, has anyone had any experience with this product/company? Any issues? Warranty experience?
Secondly, what has happened to the shops that repair/rebuild starters/generators/alternators? Here where I am in rural eastern VA all of the shops that I used to deal with no longer rebuild starters etc. It seems that all I hear now is "Cheaper to go with a replacement aftermarket unit than to rebuild your old one." Is it the same way all over the country? What the he$$?? When did this happen?? Let me guess, about the same time as China became a world fiscal player and export behemoth?? UNBELIEVABLE!!!

Re: Prestolite Starter Question...

I've used several places from E-Bay but not that one. I've not had any problems so far. There seems to be a lot of different places doing the starters now. A lot more compared to last year, and significantly cheaper too.

Labor costs are so much cheaper in other countries. Only problem is the quality control. Just look at some of the Chinese products. The pet food that was killing dogs and cats. The drywall used in the Southeastern US that was corroding the wiring and causing health issues.
