Hi guys need some info. On the bottom of my trim pump, the returne line has a brass elbow, I have taken the elbow out. There is a check ball two small springs and a washer, what is its function of this and could that cause the outdrive to slowley seep down? Now when an outdrive seeps down does it feed back through the return line. Thanks Buz

Been a long time since I took apart a prestolite pump, but check balls are used to stop flow, or keep pressure from exceeding a given valve. In most cases a drive that slowly goes down is from the seals inside the trim cylinder, they just need rebuilt

When a ram leaks internally it keeps the rod from completely retracting when lowering the drive. There is a small “O” ring which is in the front of the ram that leaks. Make sure the valve block is not warped where it mates to the pump body. Try blowing it out with air in case some grit got lodged in the passages. Or try to get a replacement. The pump should develop 3kpsi and hold. Get a 3k pressure gauge and make up a connection and bench test it.

Check balls 4 and 11 (11 next to 4 but number missing) state

Excess fluid returning from "UP" side pass thru 4 and 11 to the return reservoir
