Hi everyone, I had a Prestolite HYA-5110 trim and tilt on my Johnson 40hp, the last couple of years it has been leaking down when I raise the motor, I am tired of this and would like to fix the problem. The motor is just fine and the leak must be internal. I have the pump and hydralic system dissassembled 100% but dont seem to see anything wrong for sure, the oring on the cylinder rod looks good but? Does anyone have a good teardown of this unit? I found some different ones but not this one! not a good diagram anyway, only portions of it. I cant find where I can get many internal parts either anyone know of anywhere to get parts? Does anyone know what "usually causes a internal leakdown in this unit and what to look for? I hate to ditch the unit as it is good except for the leakdown. I found this site but it dosnt have as much info or parts as I would like: http://www.boats.net/parts/search/O...OWER TILT KIT 25, 30 & 35 ELECTRIC/parts.html any help would be greatly appriciated Thanks

Re: Prestolite Trim/Tilt help?

I guess no one has rebuilt or dealt with this unit, must be a rare one? I am considering just cleaning it up real good and re-assembling it and hope for the best as I cant tell what is wrong with it, any ideas guys? I will just make new gaskets for it myself, I would like to find a place where I could buy a rebuild kit for the unit but I am not having any luck at all. I wish I had a real good teardown of it.

Re: Prestolite Trim/Tilt help?

Well I put it together using the gasket I made and the unit didnt work at all! I installed the old gasket and the unit works just like it did before, so the unit needs a specific thickness of gasket to work properly! The unit still leaks down of coarse, but I think I may have learned somthing, I think it is the manual bypass or whatever it is called " the thing with the adjustment screw" is why the motor leaks down I think????????? the rubber thing on the end is flat, is it suppose to be? or is it suppose to look like a point like on a carburator float needle???? Dont know but I dont think it is stopping the fluid completely.

If it was myself I'd call BRP customer service at 1-847-689-7090. They might be able to help you find a source for parts as OMC used a lot of those units at one time.

Re: Prestolite Trim/Tilt help?

Hi guys I am wondering if they made a trim/tilt unit for a 1986 Johnson 40hp, my flip lock is destoyed and it is the only hassle free way of keeping the motor up while trailering the boat ?

Do you have any info on pump inside parts? Two check balls inside, rebuilding it and think they go back by two holes in case buy shaft for motor like they are check valves that let fluid only flow one way have looked for a week for inside break down of pump its the one in your picture thank for any info

Zeppa this thread is over 3 years old. It really is best to start a new thread of your own as you will get more looks. You could also link this thread for reference in your new posting.

I do know that Faztbullet is still active on this forum so hopefully he will see this and respond.
