Hi,<br />I rebuilt the lower unit on my 1968 65hp Evinrude sportfour. I had the lower unit inspected and was told the seals were in good shape. I still have water in the lower unit. What now? Water pump reseal? How is this pressure/vacumm test done? Thanks Rod

The gearlube is drained, dran capped, and the tester screws into the vent hole. Pressure or vacuum depends on the tester. It's best to do both. But a good test doesn't always mean good seals. The more pressure you add, the more the seals seal. So it's easy to misinterpret the results. If there's water in there, a seal or gasket is leaking. They're all the same age, so they should all be replaced if any are. Otherwise the leak just moves to the next weakest seal.

Finding a weak or brocken seal seem like a vary difficult task. I would like to do this job right and be done. Can I buy a complete reseal kit for this lower unit or do u buy each seal. What is the normaly done? Replace one or all seals. I can fix anything thats broke but finding whats broke is proving to be the task. Sounds like the pressure test is a waste of time.

Find leak source by submerging the LU in water while under pressure or vacuum ... just follow the bubbles. Seals are bought individually.
