Previously Painted Aluminum

[Mich H20s]

I am planning to paint the topside of my Aluminum 17' Smokercraft. It is currently painted and in pretty good condition...i just dont like.

Any tips on surface preparation or paint types?

lightly sand to rough up, wash down and paint.

Ayuh,.... Rustoleum will give you a durable, good looking surface,... Cheaply...

2pt. Urethanes are a Harder to do, Harder surface that looks Beautiful, when properly applied...
At about $100. a Gallon...

Rustoleum Rules! A lot of people poo-poo it, but it's cheap, durable, easy to apply, and looks fine. You can brush it, spray it, or even put it on with spray cans. Fine stuff.

The Big Box Stores usually have a larger selection,... But Yes, the Same paint..

Thanks again for the posts! The green in the last pict is actually the color i have been thinking about. Helps to see on a boat!

I have a 12 foot row boat in serious need of a paint job...i think i will practice on that one first before i move onto the 17 footer.

Do you need to use any primer with it? What if the aluminum is bare metal?
