Re: Price of a builder

Thanks for replies

I did'nt know anything about Force engines because i would have never bought the boat. Prior to this I had a 115 Johnson and a 115 Mercury and were pleased with both. First time out with the 125 Force it blew a head gasket and even now it feels under powered(17 ft open bow). I have a friend who is a marine mechanic and he told me during the slow season(Oct-Dec)with my help he could do it for $600. So I'm trying to find something for this next fall to fix. Also, any areas in the country to get a better deal than others?

Thanks, Chris

Price of a builder

New to the board!! What is a reasonable price for a builder 150 Johnson/Evenrude? I found one for $375, Is this a good deal? I have to get rid of this piece of crap Force. Figured I would up the hp(still within safe hp for boat) and get back to a reputable brand.

Taking an engine of unknown quality, and rebuilding it to a reliable, sound engine can get very exspensive, even doing all the work yourself. Get some price's on all parts' needed for a rebuild, then see how $350 sounds.

Well, the lower unit alone would be worth at least $500, Tilt &trim unit $200.
Go for it.
