I?m going to be selling my 1965 50hp West Bend Outboard motor. Does anyone know an approximate price to ask for it? It runs. Has 120pounds of compression in both cylinders. I?m getting rid of the steering console too. Is that worth anything? If so how much?

Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated. If this is the wrong forum for this question then MODS please move.

Thanks in advance.

Ayuh,.... I deleted yer post in the Dry-dock, as it don't belong there....
And,...
I moved this 1 from the Force forum, to here where it belongs....

Now, yer question,...

It's worth exactly whatever somebody is willin' to pay for it....

I'd think, yer lookin' in the couple hundred dollar range,....

Maybe more, probably less....

Re: Pricing Question

Thanks Bond-O. I wasn’t sure where it should have been posted. The place it wound up makes perfect sense to me now.

A couple hundred bucks eh? That’s not too bad.

What would you pay for a 1987 45hp(I think) Evinrude tiller? I'm looking at one that has low hours for $360 bucks. Is that a good deal?

Re: Pricing Question

Unless "west bend" is really a merc or OMC, I doubt you could sell it at all. Maybe you can find a "west bend" collector's club. I can't imagine much of a market for a 1965 50 hp anything except among those restoring boats. IOW take the first offer.

The steering console isn't worth much but the controls are essential to the deal.

Sounds like a good price on the '87. Tillers in larger HP can be deisrable b/c they are hard to find. If you are going to run it from controls be sure they are compatible, or you will be spending more than the motor.

Re: Pricing Question

That's a red-headed step-child. 1965 was the year that Chrysler bought out West Bend. Chrysler, Force, etc.....all red headed....LOL.

Take the first offer you get. 5 hp West Bends are collectable...not 50's.

Re: Pricing Question

Thanks guys. It wasn’t the best news I wanted to hear but at least it gives me some guidance. I was hoping to get 5 or 6 hundred bucks for the lot. Bummer.

I'd list it for $450 cuz someone might not know any better and coming with all the controls is a plus. However, take anything $200 or more. Shoot, maybe even $150.

That deal on the '87 45 sounds like a STEAL

Re: Pricing Question

It is a steal ezmobee. Plus I know every lake that it has been on since it was brand new. One. The motor belongs to my dad. It’s off the Lund he bought in 87’. Every year (well almost every year) he has taken it to Canada on the same lake and fished it for a week. Then the boat has come home and sat until the next year. It has always driven me crazy that he never takes it anywhere else to fish. He has had it in the shop twice for a plugged fuel injector and something else but I can’t remember what that was. So it has low hours and minimal issues. He just bought a new motor with some fancy throttle controls and he no longer has to mix gas. The trade in on his old one would have been $360 with the dealer so he figured he’d do me a favor and sell it to me for his trade in value. I just got VERY lucky.
