Re: pricing winterizing

Depends on what gets done and what they charge per hour. Or if they have a special on, or __________________ Fill in the blank.
Best thing you could do is ask for estimates from those in your area. I doubt you will pull your boat to Boston because they have a better winterization price, and not many dealers out there match forum posts about prices.

There is a lot of difference between a winterization that is drain the raw water out of the engine and send you down the road, and one that covers all the oil and filter changes, drive lube, pulling the drive, fogging, draining. stabilizing fuel, checking batteries etc.
Price means nothing if you don't know what you get.

Re: pricing winterizing

I just did an 07 bayliner with a 3.0 the other day. Total was 367 for everything. That did not include pulling the drive.
250 was the labor, service call (it was done onsite at the customers house), and waste oil disposal. The rest was parts.
You can't go wrong bringing it to a dealer. You get what you pay for. And sometimes people are paying to only be set up with a cracked block come spring time. Be wary of all the lowball "mobile mechanics" you see on craigslist. I see some guys on CL advertising I/O's done with drive service INCLUDING parts for 149~ I don't know what they are smoking but they can't possibly do it when parts alone run 125.

So far, I've tabulated:

Antifreeze
Fuel stabilizer
Fogging oil
Gasket set
Impeller
Engine oil
Engine oil filter
Stern drive oil
Marine grease
Case of beer

It takes me a good half day to winterize, when I remember to do everything. That might be due to the beer. Anyone that works for $25 for that much time is nuts, especially when you consider it is not a job that anyone can do. Even a highly skilled mechanic would have to count on having a few hours into it, I would think.

Hey guys... yea 250 bucks is even cheap... average mobile marine mechanic here in the puget sound is around 100 an hr
probly gonna take at least 2 hrs to complete the job correctly. I changed the oil on a guys 96 seaswirl 7.4 liter Gi volvo penta with a duoprop. just oil change, some minor tuning, and service the drive he was looking at 500 bucks ... 300 for engine service, 100 for drive service... and service call fee, disposal fee, total round 5 bills... and he was happy to pay.....you get what you pay for....and in the mean time i found alot of critical things that were way messed up and not anywere near the ABYC requirements... so now its gonna cost him more... but his family and friends will be safe on the water... cus remember friends when your boat catches on fire you cant just pull over and step out
