Just a reminder how helpful it is to prime your 2-strokes.<br /><br />My weed whipper had always taken a good 6~10 yanks to get going. Usually I'd fully choke it, give a few pulls until she kicks over. Then I'd move the choke to half open, and pull a few more times till she starts. I'd warm'er up at WOT with the choke half open, and then I'd open the choke and do my trimming. Not the ideal starting procedure :( <br /><br />There is a small priming "bulb" on the underside of the carb. I'd give'er a few pumps before I would go through the above procedure.<br /><br />Well... today I realized there was a return tube from the carb to the fuel tank. So I got to thinking  what if I pumped the living heck out of it. I pumped and pumped until I heard fuel splash back into the tank.<br /><br />The result...<br /><br />ONE YANK :D <br /><br />Yes, One Yank  <br />Prime the heck out of it, choke full closed, throttle wide open, one yank, choke to full open, and let it warm up.<br /><br />Remember, PUMP THOSE BULBS FIRM.

with a mower, when it's first starting to run rough as it warms up, keep on the bulb too. a neighbor of mine told me that, i thought he was nuts but it works like a champ. of course, i don't exactly take care of my mower in the off-season. i haven't mastered the art of balancing the weedeater and pumping the bulb while it's running but i guess that works too.

I've mad comments about bulbs before and how wrong I was.<br /><br />Your weed wacker story makes me laugh. I've always cursed the blasted thing since new because it doesn't start properly....'till I started pumping the bulb several times. Next time I'm going to pump the c%ap out of it.<br /><br />Also, the lawn mower story is true. My cottage came with an ancient Lawnboy mower. Summer 1 the thing did not run all that well. It has no choke. (auto maybe?).<br /><br />The following year I invested $4 in a new filter thing runs well. Starts first pull with last years boat gas with TCW3 oil (yes that's right, no air cooled 2 stroke oil for my Lawnboy!)<br /><br />I need to pump to keep it running for about 10 seconds when I first start it.<br /><br />My new motto is 'Pump it until it is hard, then pump it somemore'<br /><br />You see where this is going....<br /><br />Have a great long weekend to all Canadians and our American friends. Happy Canada Day/Independence Day....

Hmmm. That's exactly the way I start my weedwacker, too. Yank, yank, yank. Thanks. I'll give the bulb squeezin method a try, if it ever stops raining down here.

I just bought a new w/w. Directions say pump primer 10 times, put in full choke, wot, pull rope 3 times, then put in 1/2 choke, and pullrope till starts and keep at wot till warm ed up then take choke off. If it dosen't stay running do all this over again. Man I wish I would have gotten another electric w/w.

i was about to toss a couple of w/ws after trying many pulls, starter fluid and a visit to the local sm eng shop who told me to take the chain store junk out side. left them leanning next to the garbage cans. the local lad,15 who cuts the lawn look at them, has em running when i returned with the coke. and said pump that primer 20 times.

Re: Prime That Puppy!!!

The funny thing is that I would pump my weedwacker a few times & it would start right up. But recently if I pump more than once it floods the engine so bad it won't start until I crank it for a while with an open throttle & let it sit for a half hour to clear out the gas.<br />I guess a carb rebuild is in order. I don't know if I can get parts since it is 12 years old.
