Well first off the motor hasn't been starting very well and the primer bulb dosen't stay hard like it used to, so I decided to start with replacing the bulb and fuel line.

The factory OMC primer bulb I am replacing has part # 328492 on it and no one around me has one in stock but one place sold me a 5/16 OMC one part # 174511 and said it should work as a replacement.

Could someone check primer bulb part # 328492 for me and see if it is a 5/16 bulb? I thought it was a 3/8 bulb but the guy said since it was a factory bulb on it now it was probaly 5/16.

The motor is a 1999 Johnson 90 hp model J90PLEE

THANKS

Re: Primer bulb and fuel line help

You will be better off replacing the whole fuel line with a kit from tempo. All bulbs are the same, it is the end connectors that are different.

If you have 3/8 fuel line you'll need a 3/8 bulb. Stay away from the aftermarket bulbs. Junk.

Re: Primer bulb and fuel line help

Sorry to jump in, but I'm just in the process of changing my fuel line from tank to engine. Is there a way to test the valves in my old bulb?

Also, where is the ideal place on the line for the bulb? Near the tank or near the engine? And is it best to keep the fuel line as short as possible?

Thanks
Steve

Re: Primer bulb and fuel line help

Thanks
Yeah I looked at some of the aftermarket bulbs and didn't like the feel of them plus I have read alot of post where people had problems with the aftermarket ones going bad quick.

Any way I can tell what size bulb and fuel line is on it now? I looked on the bulb and fuel line and saw no mention of size.

I posted the primer bulb part # in the orginal post, so if anyone knows for sure what size or could look up the part # it would be a big help.

Thanks again

Re: Primer bulb and fuel line help

I just changed my bulb. I bought a 3/8 Tempo bulb. It seems to be doing just fine. Time will tell I guess. Also bought a new plastic gas tank.
