Having a little trouble starting the boat after running for a while. 1996 Bayliner 17ft/Force 75hp. Initial start is fine, primer bulb gets hard, fiddle with the throttle and it will start. After running for 10-15 minutes it will not restart without squeezing the bulb again and working the throttle a lot. Just decarbed with no improvement to starting. Let me know what you think.:confused

Re: Primer bulb or fuel pump?

Look for a pinhole leak in the fuel line, carb bowl gasket, and all fuel fittings.
Also, the Force 75HP has a problem with the screws that hold the fuel pump together backing-out from vibration. Use some locktite #271 on the threads. The check valves inside the pump have a tendancy to stick open on 1 year old fuel, and nothing short of rebuilding the pump will fix that. The good news is, they are easy and cheap to rebuild. There is a filter under the round "cap" of the pump,held-on with one screw. Clean and re-install.
I would check for at least 120lbs of compression too, because the pump operates on engine compression.
Also check tank vent for blockages.

That's about all i can think of right now.
I hope you get it running first crank..If not, you know where we hang-out

Thanks 12Footer, I hoped to hear from you. Is there a manual online I can refer to, or where could I order one from. I can't seem to find the one that includes the '96 models.

Thanks 12Footer for the help. I got the manual and also replaced the primer bulb and fuel line. Haven't had any trouble since. Thanks a bunch. Jeff
