My primer bulb never gets hard, it stays soft but it does deliver fuel to the engine, sometime I think too much where it spills over. Do I need a new one?

Re: Primer Bulb Question

Seaman, had similar problem with several bulbs. If the bulb lays horizontal to the transom the check valves don't always work right. I found that if I lifted the bulb verticle it usually worked right. I mounted the bulb closer to the motor forcing it to hang verticle, now the check valve works and the bulb stays hard. Just a matter of cutting the hose and moving the bulb closer to the motor. Keep that gas in the line for easier starts. Kendo from Wi.

Re: Primer Bulb Question

Not so fast on replacing or moving the primer bulb. If fuel is spilling out of the carbs you have a carb issue and can pump the bulb all day long and it won't firm up. Once the float bowls are full, fuel should be shut off. Then and only then will the bulb firm up. It does not have to be rock-hard anyway. That slight firmness tells you the carbs are full. I think you need to clean and rebuild the carbs and set the float level properly.
