Primer fittings

I have a factory V4 140 intake manifold. I have no idea the year, but the primer solenoid connects to 4 fittings on the intake manifold. I took all 4 fittings out and sprayed cleaner/air through them. It seems that I can spray air through the back side and air comes out fast. But if I blow air through the notmal side there is little air coming out. There acting like a check valve, but the wrong direction. Problem I am having is my fuel pump has not enough presure to overcome the fitting. Did some models come with an electric fuel pump with a higher PSI? The fittings also have screens in them. I guess the obvious is to replace them, but I am having a hard time finding them.

Re: Primer fittings

The primer that you speaks of does not pump fuel. It realies on the cyl's to draw fuel out once the internal solenoid pulls the channel open. That is why you will have the one way valve that seems to be the wrong way.

TMD

Re: Primer fittings

shoot.. Didn't think of that.

Are you saying that all I need to do is prime the lines to get the primer function to work?

Is it possible those are fuel drains and not for the primer solenoid?(The vacuum ports are connected to crankcase side of reeds, both -+ pressures exist and almost cancel out)

Re: Primer fittings

Give us the model number of that engine and we'll tell you exactly what you have.

Those small brass valves are fuel recirculating valves and have nothing to do with the priming system. Air/fuel should flow through them one way (screen to nozzle) only. If any air at all will flow through them backwards (small end to screen), the valve will require replacing.

lol!! and I thought I lucked out!

I have no idea of the year that intake came from.

I am going to just drill them out and use them for primer. Unless there is a reason why not too?

Re: Primer fittings

Another thought. If they bleed fuel back to... wherever, doesn't this reduce crankcase pressure? Or are they so small that it makes no difference?

Re: Primer fittings

The three primer lines don' connect to the manifold. They plug into fittings on the top of the carburetors right in front of the mounting flanges. The four check valves in the intake manifold are recirculating valves.

c/6

Hooty

Re: Primer fittings

I would have done that, but I don't have the fittings on the carbs. Them carbs were used on a model that had the primer in the port deflectors. Unless... I could drill from the base and from the top. Try and find fittings that small to fit on the carb landing!

!@#$%!@%@!%!@#$%!@#$%!@%

Not a big deal. I will figure out something.

Where did the 4 hoses plug into? There are 4 fittings, 1 nipple at bottom, 1 hole on #4 cyl. and 1 hole plugged off on #2 cyl. I ran a hose from the nipple to the airbox and the 4 check valves I sent to the primer. Ran like a scalded ape last time I took her out.

Here's how the recirculating hoses hook up on a six cylinder.

Re: Primer fittings

ok, in that pic, are all the fittings check valves? or only 6 of them check valves?(there are 8 fittings, right? The other 2 suck in, right? Can I tie my primer, with a T, into the 2 valves that are suck valves?
