Primer for locktite 518?

my local mechanic said just make sure the faces are extremely clean and use the 518, i see on here others have used it with no primer and havent had issues yet.

does anyone know for sure if the primer is necessary?

if you use the primer, I reccomend not, be aware it kicks off the sealent in about 5 minutes.
I am old and slow and it sets up the sealent to quick for me.
extremely clean AND oil free I agree with.
use acetone or other solvents to wipe it down.
dont even want finger print oil on the mating surfaces.

i have the entire motor torn down and still have some other stuff to work on so it will most likely be, at a minimum, 4-5 days from sealing the case to actual test running.

think ill go with no primer then.. thanks.
