Hello,
I'm relatively new to the forums and have been fighting with my 86 90hp Evinrude for a few weeks now. I bought the engine, it was running very rich, black wet plugs, idling very hard, etc... I rebuilt the carbs as they were leaking when priming the bulb real hard. In addition I decided to check out the primer solenoid, what I found was that regardless of what position the little red lever is in (closed or open) fuel would gush out the small line feeding the carbs. I know what the little red lever is for and how the primer works, my question is, should this be happening? I'm assuming not, I feel like when you squeeze the bulb, the carbs should fill up and that's it, when you activate the solenoid either by the key or by moving the red lever, then the fuel should bypass it and go directly into the manifold. Is it possible when running, the fuel is bypassing the carbs and dumping straight into the intake? I think a seal is gone in the solenoid. It's been too darn rainy to get out and pull the hose as the engine is running to test, but I hope to tomorrow.
That being said, I see parts for the solenoid but i'm not sure which ones to replace, or should i replace the whole thing? it's $170 for a new unit or a few bucks in parts....
Thanks!
