I have a 70h.p. Evinrude vro which has a primer solenoid with a red lever on it.Does anyone know what this is for or how to adjust it?I have a Clymer manual and it describes the solenoid and shows a good picture of it but does not tell what this lever is for.

Re: Primer solenoid???

Red lever is the manual prime in the event that the electric solenoid is inoperable. The normal "run" position of this lever is inline with the body of the solenoid with the lever end facing aft. There is no adjustment. It's either on or off.The funtion of the primer solenoid is to assist in cold startup by allowing fuel to flow past carbs into intake chamber. It is energized when the key switch button is pushed in.Cold start procedure is to squeeze primer bulb until firm and turn ignition key as to start engine while holding in on the keyswitch which energizes the fuel primer solenoid.Sometimes it may be necessary to bump the keyswitch primer button a few times after engine fires to allow it to settle to a smoothe idle.

Joesboats,You can test the operation of the electric solenoid by turning the key to the "on" position ,engine not running, and pushing in on the keyswitch and listening for a "click" sound from the solenoid.
