Priming and painting an aluminum outboard bracket/platform

Hi guys, I had a outboard bracket with a platform fabricated for my boat and will be prepping the metal and priming with mar pro zinc chromate primer. I would like to know if I can apply the awlgrip topcoat over that or should I the use an awlgrip primer over the zinc chromate then apply the awlgrip topcoat. The zinc chromate is a bare metal primer and self etching so I will definately want that on first of all. Let me hear your thoughts..

I don't see the zinc as "primer" int he conventional sense, more like unprimed whatever so i would og with the other primer, then you are certain you won't have top paint again anytime soon.

The zinc etches so there really isn't any prep other than to ensure that the metal is clean, it is self sanding so to speak.

I have spayed alot of regular single stage paint over the zinc and never had a problem but if they make a specific primer for the awl grip I would use it.

Hi 5150abf, thanks for your reply and yes the only prep I am doing is a cleansing procedure. Awlgrip has a primer but nothing really recommended for bare metal without having to sand and thats why I looked and found a bare metal self etching primer. I think I will just prime it with the zinc chromate and top coat it with awlgrip.

Ok, I will use some Awlgrip 545 epoxy primer over the zinc chromate before top coating then since I have some of that left from another project.
