Hello I have 1989 Baja islander 190. Mercruiser 3.0. I replaced the fuel line from the tank to the fuel pump. How do I prime the system again to get the fuel flowing? Thank you

an electric fuel pump to draw the fuel thru the new hose,
some type of suction device to draw the fuel thru the hose

Turn the key and the fuel pump will draw the gas. A little gas down the carb throat to save tear and tear on the battery and starter - Put the flame arrestor back on before cranking.

there should still be fuel in the bowl.

so just hook up the muffs and start it.

Also, if part of this replacement included the fuel seperator, make sure to pour some gas in the filter/seperator before you screw it on, that will also help prime things.

That’s what I thought I could do was just start it because there should still be fuel in the bowl. The reason I changed the fuel line is because it was real brittle and the last time I was out it started dying and hard to start. So I figured I would change that which I should of done at the beginning of the year. I changed the fuel filter last year but have not checked it this year. But now it still won’t start. It will only start if I spray starting fluid down the carb. When it does start it sounds rough and eventually dies again. I cracked the fuel line coming from fuel pump to the carb. It’s getting fuel up to the carb because when I cracked the line and turned the ignition over it sprayed out fuel. Any suggestions. The only thing I haven’t replaced in the fuel system side is the fuel pump but what it looks like it’s pumping fuel to the carb when the ignition is turned over as I previously stated. Thanks

I just had it rebuilt prior to this season. We’ve been out probably about 7-10 times with no issues until the last time as I explained.

So I got the carb pulled and pulled apart. How do I go about fixing the needle and seat. It looked ok and came out fine. I sprayed some carb cleaner on the seat and needle and wiped it off. Can I just put it back on and see what happens?

So I’m putting back together my carb and I noticed I don’t have a accelerator pump spring. Not sure if there was ever one or if I may have lost it while I was cleaning the carb. I’d imagine that this is important. Like I’ve stated before I had the carb rebuilt over the winter and I have been out at least 8-10 times with no issues until this last time. I’m just really confused as to if there was ever one or if I lost it by maybe not seeing it when I dumped the fuel after I took it apart and fell out somewhere. Any thoughts?

most of the time thats all it takes

I’m at a loss right now. I have no clue what’s going on. I got the carb back on and still won’t start. It might start for a second but prob only because of the starting fluid but sounds rough. I can see fuel dripping down into the engine even after I turn the ignition off and check. So I can now see fuel going to the engine. One side is dripping faster than the other side. I went ahead and pulled the plugs and they all still look brand new. Could I possibly have other issues and not be the carb?

you should not have any fuel dripping when you shut the motor off.

there should be an accelerator spring.

the carb still has issues.

I think I’m just going to get another rebuild kit and try that because I need a new gasket anyways. I have no clue why fuel is dripping from the Venturi so we will see what happens in a few days.

So I rebuilt the carb again. The Venturi is still dripping when it is not running. In fact I still can’t get it to start. Only starts for a moment if I spray starting fluid in there. Then sometimes it won’t even start with that. I don’t know if it’s gettimg flooded now being the reason it won’t start. I don’t know about the Venturi still dripping. I tripled check the float level and everything.

Seems I’m getting no spark. Now one of my plugs broke in half from trying to take it off again. But not getting any spark on any cylinder.
