priming vst

I have a 2006 f250. Started having fuel issues. Replaced filter in vst, F shaped filter and the fuel filter in the cup. I am trying to prime the vst but not sure it is filling. Primer ball is hard. I drain the fuel in vst & get less then a half oz. Took off hose to fuel rail then put gas in vst through there & motor ran fine for 10 mins then died. Does the electric low pressure pump fill vst? I hear the buzzing from the pump but it doesnt shut off after a few seconds. Keeps going.

Correction, took hose off to fuel cooler not fuel rail

Yes it does fill the VST. Only sure way to check these is with the YDIS system
