20 HP on a 17 foot boat is going to be a slug unless this is a jon boat hull. Even then 20 HP is a little light for that type of hull. Tracker is noted for under powering boats just to achieve the low price point. A good share of those folks end up selling the boat or upgrading the engine for that reason.

my buddy has a similar tracker w/ console and a 40hp and its a SLUG. So I can imagine how slow yours is. I know w/ jet drive outboards we use a ratio of 25pounds per hp (at the power head, jets lose 30% at the pump) to figure out what size motor would be best for a given hull (weight of hull, gear, passengers, and motor combined). Not sure if this ratio holds true for prop driven boats as well. if so a 20 hp will only effectively push around 500 pounds of boat, motor, people, and gear. In most situations, going w/ the boats max hp or 1 motor size down is the ticket.

like stated above tracker keeps the price down by putting too small a motor on their boats. I know a few guys that went through this.

so according to this My max motor is 150 HP 5 person capacity 1750 procraft bass boat. The 125 should be appropriate according to what you say. Man My 40 HP must be going through hell lol

like I said that's what seems to hold true for O/B jets not sure if it's the same to calculate prop driven boats. AND thats just a guideline anyway. If you're happy w/ a 40hp on that boat then that's really all that counts. right? I just know my buddy's 17' tracker is a DOOOOOG w/ a 40!
