I "think" it's a 94 model motor. It's a 175 proV (P175TLRS). It won't transfer oil to the engine mounted tank on it's own.
I can't find the alarm on the boat if it even has one. Has a digital tach with lights in it, but, those don't seem to work and I think this gauge is new.
It will transfer oil if you use the emergency switch.

I put a new oil level sensor in the main engine mounted tank and within seconds it got hot enough to melt the part of the sensor that sticks down into the oil.

My book has no wiring diagrams that show these color wires and on this motor, the wire colors change at many of the plug connectors.

Motor runs fine, I just pre mix the gas AND keep the engine tank full manually.
Any ideas as to whats wrong?

I had the same problem recently on my 1996 175. It was a broken black wire on the four wire plug on the remote tank. Repaired the wire and now the main tank is filled to the correct level automatically.

The heat says you have a short in the wiring.

I'm not an "outboard" mechanic. Not even any kind of mechanic I guess? Definately not certified. Didn't even pass my idiot certification test...lol.

But, with a business where we take cars, boats, engines, etc. apart every day...and then put some back together. There is usually somebody here that can figure about anything out.
Knowing the whole story in advance always helps though. Sometimes it's difficult to get that "story" though.
Many will tell you thier car just quit, but, they leave out the fact that it was right after they installed or did "something" themselves.

Our local bass club is small and seems somebody is always having trouble with their boat. They would take it to a real shop, but, that would mean it would be down for at least two/three months this time of year. Just waiting in line.
I'll look at a problem the same day for these guys and usually have the problem solved within a day or so. It's not making money, it's just keeping my buddies "on the water".

I guess this is the first one that we have had trouble with. Aside from wiring / electrical gremlins being one of the most time consuming and difficult projects for "us"....It sure seems we are not getting "all of the story" on this boat either.

Boat has NO alarm and the Yamaha digital tach has recently been replaced.
I just have to assume that it came with an alarm and for some reason it's been removed.
The tach was said to have been replaced after a powerhead was installed. I was told it worked when the boat went to the shop and came back from the shop not working.
Now, the tach works, but the trim gauge in the tach does not work.
Figured that out real quick (harness was unplugged). Then later I get the "rest of the story". Says tach "messes up" when that harness is plugged in. Massive interogation reveals no light on just what exactly is the meaning "messes up".

Anyway, gave the boat back just like it showed up and figured it best not to get in over our heads on this one. It wasn't that I didn't think we could repair it. Just figured it would take a couple of days and not sure what else we would find.

Thanks for the info guys.

Someone has plugged up something wrong or shorted a wire somewhere to cause this type of problem. Always a nightmare to find.
First place to look would be the oiling and alarm circuits. A tech who is familiar with the wiring and systems is needed normally to find that kind of created problem.
