Problem at WOT

I have a 2004 Johnson 140 4 stroke with about 150 hrs on it. We have taken it out about 6 times (just bought the boat about 6 weeks ago) and it has worked fine everytime.

Normally it is very quiet and runs normal; however, yesterday at WOT it started going wa wa wa wa wa and the rpms dropped and it felt like the engine was shutting off.

When I backed it down to about 3/4 throttle it got its power back and seemend to work fine. It did this everytime we tried to go WOT yesterday.

Any thoughts would be appreciated...not that I can fix it (I don't know much about engines) but I wnat to make sure I am not hurting the engine if I take it out again and or if there might be someting easy to check??

Thanks!

Re: Problem at WOT

Could be your just hitting the rev limiter. Keep an eye on your tack next time you go to wot.

I would strongly suggest a visit to your service department. That is much too nice a motor to risk and the diagnostics will find the problem quickly.
