Hey guys .
I recently bought a boat with a 1987 Johnson VRO 140Hp engine . (Vro is bypassed)

So i have trouble getting it to WOT . It bogs down.
Idle seems okay .

I purchased 4x new Champion Spark plugs QL77JC4
Replaced a cut off fuel line leading to one of the carbs.
Replaced a broken spark plug cable .

So after all this, i thought the engine would of been acting properly..but it's not.

I then, decided to change my carbs gaskets and seals , but when doing so, i saw something strange , cylinders 1 and 3 has 16 and 28 sized jets . & Cylinders 2 and 4 has 20 & 28 sized jets . Is this normal ? Would that cause some issues with accelerating, or bogging ?
Anyways, i cleaned my carbs with carb cleaner, and the jets with pressurized air, purchased 4x carb repair kits. Installed them.

Took it in the water, ran fine for an hour. After the hour, started to bog again.. Thought maybe my fuel pump had something.. so i took it apart, found nothing in it.
But after reinstalling the pump , noticed another broken bleeder line .
After all that, my engine just wont start, keeps flooding itself.. did i break my fuel pump ?
If so , knowing that the engine is 30years old, the vro has been removed and replaced by a standard fuel pump..Which fuel pump am i suppose to purchase... Even my johnson/evinrude/brp retailers here, arent quite sure, which pump to sell me..
A part number would be great to have..or a link, that ships to Canada.

Thanks

Update * Took it on water, runs fine for 1hr, then it bogs..to me it seems like it bogs when it warms up..When it started bogging down , i tried priming the engine, also tried pumping the fuel pump manually , while giving it throttle.. Nothing changed. So from what ive read here and other places , It wouldnt be a fuel side problem, but an ignition problem .. How to correctly trouble shoot which part of my ignition is failing though ? Thanks

Checked the carburetor bowls on a flat surface ?-----They often warp over time .----Possibly because screws are too tight !

Theyre brand new. Ive rebuilt them with brp oem carb kits. Same for the spark plugs and wires, aswell as the bleeder lines, fuel filter....

If the carb bowl is distorted due to over-tightening, you could get bad fitment between the fuel delivery holes in the carb bowl that mate up to the top of the carb and cause erratic or worse performance.

This is one of those questions I asked on this forum recently about the nature of the carb bowl for the 1990 Johnson 90 HP VRO. Why was the replacement of the original carb bowl recommended with the newer ones that are aluminum?

I would possibly guess is because it can very easily distort or wear out faster if removed and re-installed too many times or way to tightly.

A 1990 model 90 HP has 2 carburetors while a 1987 model 140 has 4 carburetors I believe.-----So a different motor.

The problem isnt carb related.. Its ignition . Id like to know how to diagnose which ignition part it could be though. Thanks
