Found a loose hose on the vro and bad o-ring on the vapor box took care of those and she's back to normal idling around 1000 to 950 in the water no sneeze and no skip did another lync and sync and all is good no hesitation on take off and runs right up to 61 at 5500 rpm's like the old day but the tach is very erractic and keeps cutting out how do you know if you need a rectifier or new tach???

Good job.

Did you try cleaning the rectifier grounds and connection plugs?

Try putting a meter at the tach end and see if the needle on the multimeter jumps around same as the tach, play with the meter settings until it gets in range. I've done it with the speedo in my volvo.
Make sure battery terminals are clean and very tight, no thumb screws.
