Problem Solved: It was the FLOATS!

A week ago I started a thread describing a problem I'd had for several months: hard hot start, random stalls, really rough idle, generally running like crap. Motor is a Mercury 75hp made in 1986.

Today I broke those carbs out again (no small task) and replaced the floats. Somebody on this board suggested that even though my floats *looked* OK, they could very well be no good and the cause of my problem. I stuck in new floats, needles, and brass seats. Then I reset my idle mixture screws.

That was it. She jumps out of the hole now every time. Idle is smooth and strong. Eureka! Very happy here.

There ya go. Sometimes the foam floats get fuel-logged and just don't float right.

See ya on the lake, DJ.

Good news for sure and I am glad you come back and posted your success. You should have posted this news in the original thread so all those that offered ideas can read your success. That always is the best practice. :thumb: :thumb:
