I'm not sure why but my control box where the shifter is has a buzzer in it that goes off for about a minute straight whenever it gets the urge. Anymore else ever had this problem?

That is your warning horn. A steady beep or buzz means your motor is over heating. An intermittant beep means an oiling problem if you have a VRO.

Either a failed water pump impeller or a blockage in the cooling system. Have you ever personally had your impeller replaced? If not I would do it. It's a wear item. Some people say to replace them every year. I'm more a 2-4 guy myself.

you really should learn more about your boat and motor...

it can be very important out on the water to be aware of what is going on.

you could look for the tell tale stream to know that the impeller was pumping water..

you could take the cover off and touch the cylunders to see if they are REALLY hot...that you get burned!!

the horns are not totally reliable...mine goes off so 10 seconds 2 minutes after I turn the motor on, ever sinlge time...but the motor is not over heating...

does your motor have an oil pump???

good luck

It was streaming water just fine, but I've heard a bad impeller could still push water without it being enough to cool the motor properly. Since impellers need frequent changing and I have no history on this boats maintenance records, I'm getting it changed for piece of mind if nothing else.

ok now run it with the cover off and make sure that both heads seem to feel about the same in temperature...you should be able to touch the heads , but not keep your hand there for long..with out a little discomfort...

if it burns so bad you have to yank you hand off fast...then you are over heating...

if thats the case it might be money well spent having a mechanic look at the motor....

because it would correlate to the alarm....

good luck

Thanks Bob, when I get it back from the shop, I'll take it to the lake and try out what you described. I appreciate the advice.

well call the shop now and ask to make sure it isnt overheating.

my suggestion was for if you didnt want to take it to the shop!!

since they got it...It shouldnt be much for them to verify the pump is working good and your motor is NOT over heating!!

good luck
