I recently replaced the fuel pump, filter, water seperator and tightened all fuel line connections. Cleaned the carbs and pumped the bulb for a long time figuring that the seperator need to fill and some air made its way into the lines. After a while of pumping the fuel bulb, I could feel and hear some fuel going through the bulb but not a lot. The bulb did not become firm at anytime. I could see gas going into the fuel filter then I stopped. I started the engine without an issue. I brought it to the water the next day and I couldn't feel or hear any gas going throught the bulb. The engine started and ran unaffected.

What do you guys think?

thanks

P.S. If you think it is the bulb or a fuel line, can you recommend a brand to buy?

Bulb should be with arrows facing towards motor and held in mostly vertical position while pumping. Bulb check valves may be faulty, have debris in them, be deteriorated due to ethanol or other fuel additives? My bulb is the original 1999 unit with no problems, so far. I believe some cheaper, after market bulbs like Walmart/Attwood may be inferior in quality, but can't say for sure. If I had to replace mine, I'd bite the bullet for the more expensive Yamaha unit, just to be sure. Good Luck!

I think your right that the bulb valve is bad. It is in the vertical position with arrows pointed toward the engine. I guees when I squeeze it and it is not pressurizing the valves are not closing on my release to pull the gas. When the engine runs the fuel pump pulls the gas. Makes sense now.

I am going to replace it. I will try to find a Yamaha bulb. It's like buying generic brakes for the truck; they always wear out in half the time compared to the factory brakes.

Thanks for the advice.

I have a sumular problem with my 92 yamaha. When I first try to start I can't get the bulb to tighten. When I finally get it started it runs fine. I have just put on a new bulb.
