I just hooked up a teleflex fuel gauge with a moeller sender, but its not working. I took the Ignition wire from my teleflex tach and bridged it over to the I post on the fuel gauge. Grounded gauge directly to my grounding block. Grounded the moeller sender to my grounding block. Ran the sender post on the moeller to the S on the teleflex gauge.

Whenever I complete the circuit it goes straight up to full! I looked in there, and the float is hanging freely.

Re: Problem with fuel gauge install

Either the "S" terminal on the gauge is shorted to the ground terminal on the gauge, or you have the sender terminal on the sender shorted to ground. What you told us is the correct wiring so something you did is not what you said you did. For anyone else with fuel gauge problems, when directions tell you to ground the sender, they mean connect the metal flange of the sender to ground. It is not necessary to run a separate ground wire all the way from the sender to the ground buss on the fuse/breaker panel. Ground is the negative terminal of the battery so it can be connected there to eliminate long runs of wire.

Here is the wiring diagram for a fuel gauge circuit.
