Was at the lake all weekend with my truck('88 C-1500) and yesterday when we were getting ready to go load the boat, I noticed the emergency brake light was on. I went to release the e-brake but it was not on. When the e-brake is on, the light is slightly brighter, but even when released the light stays on at about 50-75% brightness. I thought maybe it was trying to tell me I was low on brake fluid but I checked it and it was still at the full mark. So does anyone have any idea what would make this light stay on all the time??? I'm at a total loss here.

Drag, have a 96 s-10 have almost the same problem except mine is with the check engine for some reason on super hot days when I release the brake it would come on real dim flash if I used the blinkers and then fade away. After many trips to the shop the best they could figure is there is a weak ground somewhere and is aggravated by temp.

You might want to check that the brakes are fully releasing though. They could be not releasing enough to shut off the sensor.

DragRacer, unhook the wire at the master cylinder and see if the light goes out. If it does, then you know it is in the sensor there.
If not, then look at the sensor for the park brake.
Also try holding up on the parking brake while you pull the release and see if it goes out.
If it does, then the sensor needs adjusting.

BTW, Way to go FORCE. :)

Probably the Parking Brake sensor that SBN was talking about. That is pretty common on the GM's. If the brake is not on and the brakes seem to be working properly. Sometimes the light will not go out even when you hold the parking brake up as far as possible.

Had that problem on my old truck, a 93 Chevy PU. I'm not a mechanic(at all), so I took it to the garage and they told me it was that the rear brake shoes needed replaced. They replaced them and was good to go... no more light.

Worn rear brake shoes or just out of adjustment.. Could be the switch like the guys say...

One more thing while were talking about the E-brake light... Don't know bout ya'll's 1500's but on my 89 1500, if for some reason the rear tail lights are not working (like a blown fuse), when I step on the service brake pedal the E-brake light will come on while the service brake pedal is pressed... ;)

BTW, SBN, FORCE STINKS... :p

Re: Problem with my tow truck...can you help!!??

Well I got out there earlier and took a look at it. I messed around with the switch under the dash but didn't have any luck...light stayed on. So I got under the hood and unplugged a one wire connector on a block next to the fluid resevoir...still didn't help. So I unplugged the wires from the ABS box and the light went out. I left it unplugged for a while and then plugged it back in and then started the truck again and the light was back on..... Then after a few seconds it went off and stayed off. I also found that one of my brake cables was bent down and kinked where it enters the brake backing plate. So I took that apart and straightened the cable housing best I could and put it back together. So I guess it's fixed for now. Guess I'll just have to wait and see if the light comes back on. So anyway...thanks for the help!!! 'preciate it!!

Hey snapper, that's what they all say.
That's because he is so good.

He just jumped from 6th. place in the points to 3rd. in 2 races. :)

Better not count him out, cause that's when he bites you. ;)

Don't get me wrong, I like the other racers too, well all of them but whinny *** Whitt, but you got to admit, that John is the man to beat in NHRA Top Fuel Funny Car. :p

Spinner.. In all honesty, I think the "fix" is on in most of the "pro" classes of drag racing and racing in general....

I don't think it has anything to do with actual racing, but more to do with creating a spectacle.. You know, putting butts in the seats and selling beer and souvineers(sp?)... Force sells because of his "waaaay over the top" act when he's fired up... Yes, I think it's all an act...

I prefer to watch the sportsman classes and pro stock... W.J. all the way!

Man! Am I jaded or what? :p

Yea the professor is good, but I think Greg Anderson has his number this year.
Will be an interesting last part of the season.

It is all about selling, from stuff at the track to the car dealerships.

That's what it is all about or Ford, Pontiac, Mopar, and Chevolet would not have their names out there.
