Earlier in the year my 1969 electra-shift hesitated a few times when out on the lake. It didn't do it for approximately 8 outings and now has reappered. Last week it did it twice so I decided to change the fuel filter. Yesterday had the boat out and it ran fine for an hour. Started to head back to the marina (in following seas) and it started hasitating again and worse then before. It did it 5-6 times and sounded like engine was going to cut out. RPM's lowered and a couple of times the the lower unit moved the steering wheel in my hand. My brother said it sounds like a gear is slipping. After returning to the slip we could hear a slight squeaking coming from the outdrive. It went away after I stepped on the swim platform and submerged the drive. <br /><br />I've also noticed from time to time a chugging noise coming through the carburator and also small puffs of smoke. I don't know if its related or not. <br /><br />This 23ft Uniflite was my dad's boat so I reallly want to keep it but a sailboat with a little outboard is starting to look very appealling. Help!
