I have a 1972 Johnson 85HP engine. The top of the crankshaft has two lobes on it for opening and closing the points. I am supposed to set my points at .010". The problem is that the lobes are not the same height so if I set the points at .010" on one lobe, when I rotate the crank to the other lobe, the points are at .020".

Is this a problem that I can fix myself or should I just live with it.

Gary

Set your points at .010 on the tallest lobe. If there is a .010 differenec in lobs then you might never get the thing to run right. You might have to try and find a compromise setting that will work.
